Delicious Rice Dishes



Is there any one who can say he or she has never eaten rice, or any of the types of rice eaten around the world?

 
Rice is the second most commercial and important staple grain food eaten the world over after maize. Rice is the seed of the mono cot plant Oryza sativa. Over fifty countries produce rice with China and India cultivating over 50%.

There are different types of dishes made with rice all over the world. Here are some of the dishes eaten in some selected countries


Jellof Rice (West Africa)


Rice is boiled and then mixed with tomato pepper and seasoning. It is usually served with beef, fish or chicken. It is very popular in Nigeria.








Red Bean and Rice (united State)

It is made with ham bone, onion, pickled pork, bell pepper, seasoning and kidney beans











Risotto (Italy)

In Italy rice is fried in butter after which broth is added to it.





 

Kushari (Egypt) 

Rice is mixed with tomato sauce, fried onion, lentils, chickpeas and macaroni.




 

Paella (Spain)


There are different types of paellas, paella valenciana is believed to be the original type. It is made with white rice, chicken or rabbit, green vegetable, land sail and seasoning.



 Maqluba (Middle East)


This dish consists of rice and egg plant that is turn up side down when served. It is made with potatoes, fried tomatoes, carrots, egg plant, chicken or lamb

 


Pilaf (Turkey)



The rice is cooked in a broth with a bit of cooked onion and mixed spices. It may also contain vegetables, fish, meat and dried fruits.
